I echo Sean's concerns. Though I know there are security considerations, I think that the side events should be open to the public as far as reasonably feasible.
I hope the Secretariat and Bureau people in Geneva (Hi Renata, hi Viola :-) can coordinate so that this is clarified soonest with the most consideration to these concerns.
Warm regards
Al Alegre

Savita,
I do not believe you are entirely right here. At least for four rooms, the issue of access and security is not fully decided.
Our World Forum on Communications Rights is in neither Hall 1 nor hall 2, which means we do not fall under the accreditation issue, or at least for our rooms it has not been finalised. Our room is on the ground floor, in the Conference Centre and is called Mont Blanc, next to the restaurant and close to ICT4D, hence the whole registration issue - it is possible for our event to be in, or out, of the security area. We have been advised that this is not fully decided yet and there are four rooms in a similar position.
So what I think we need to do:
-agree that on days where governments organising events in the four rooms on the ground floor, some security measures might be a necessity for the specific rooms used.
-ensure that when there are no government activity in that zone, that it should be left open to the public, maybe with registration and a small fee if this is what ICT4D intends to do.
We can still get that area accreditation free for all or at least most of the 3 days, and we the bureau and the CSD should work to achieve this.
in understand that decision are taken by the Geneva Police and UN Security. I would like the CSD to indicate how best we can lobby these.
Let me know
Sean

Dear Sean,
In response to your question...Only accredited entities will have access to Hall 1 (plenary) and Hall 2 (side events), this is for the question of security. This was decided by the governmental Bureau a long time ago and it will not change.
There is still the possibility for non-accredited organisations to attend. You need to find accredited organisations that would be willing to accept persons from non-accredited entities as part of their delegation.
I hope this clarifies,
Best,
Savita

Hi Bureau Members
There seems to be a potentially serious problem arising in relation to the security and access at the Summit.
It seems (but we need urgent verification on this) that only Accredited organisations will be permitted into events such as the World Forum on Communication Rights and other non-official events. It is only for ICT4D events that mere Registration will be required.
Apart from the devastating effect this would have on the World Forum on Communication Rights (out intention is to have it as an open event), it would make it impossible for many 'Networks and Coalitions' (who tend not to be accredited) to attend what they want. As the focal point for this group, this would be unacceptable.
But first can the CSD please clarify exactly what is the case and when key decisions are being taken about this?
Thanks
Sean
