Dear All,
The issue of the CS representation on the WGIG in an urgent matter we have to resolve as quickly as possible. Just to update from the Africa Civil Society
perspective. as you are all aware, the Africa CS
provided itself a coordinating mechanism through
election in Geneva, December 2003, and it
constitutional meeting in Tunis in April 2004.
In that capacity, we approached M. Kummer in
Tunis in June during the Prepcom I and in Kuala
Lumpur in July 2004 during the ICANN meeting.
These two meetings were followed up by a mail to
which we got an answer from M. Kummer saying his
engagment to make sure that the south voices be
herd in the WGIG. In that regard, the Africa CS
is invited to make representation during the
WGIG meeting planned for September 2004 in
Geneva. I don't know yet what form the ACSIS
representation will take, but M. Kummer. who is
is vacation now, will give more details when
back.
In the mean time, we have asked people from our
constituency willing to serve best a that
position to come forward. We have got two
candidates, Tracey Naughton and Emmanuel Njenga. We have been informed the Group is looking for people who are not only technology savvy, but have the capacity to listen and are consensual oriented.
Lets see how the discussion on the bureau turns
out and how the intiatives already taken by
Africa Civil Society can fit in.
Best
Olivier
