MessageHello everyone,

I strongly support Nick's call to close this bureau at geneva2003.org list properly and to migrate everyone concerned to the bureau at wsis-cs.org list. I think it's best as people tend to forget to copy to the wsis-cs.org list, but it's the one that has open archiving and allows for better transparency.

For records purposes, please confirm exactly who is on this bureau at geneva2003.org list besides the official family focal points and members of the CSD.

Warm regards,

Angela

  Yes, I suggest we close bureau at geneva2003.org and move to bureau at wsis-cs.org. The only way to do this properly and reliably is to ensure that:

  1) All the members of the @geneva2003 list are moved to the @wsis-cs.org list

  2) We close the @geneva2003 list altogether so that all messages must go to the other one and there is no ongoing confusion.

  If people are in agreement, I hope those with moderation ability can liaise to make this happen.

  Cheers
  Nick

    As I was involved in the set up of the two lists, I can answer. After much delay in setting up a bureau list, the Secretariat and the Bureau members each set one up almost on the same day. They were both intended as the main list and there is no difference between their uses.

    However, one followed the request of the CS plenary to have an open archive <bureau at wsis-cs.org>, in line with the Bureau policy to be fully open to observers (that is still policy, as far as I know). The other <bureau at geneva2003.org> was set up by the Secretariat and does not have an open archive - or I could never find one (though for no bad reason - I think it was just logistical)

    Given that the secretariat is also in flux now, but also the need for transparency, I strongly support a full move to the bureau at wsis-cs.org list and closing the other one. Its name is anyhow out of date! I do not think a separate list is required to inform Plenary etc. of Bureau meetings, but rather a regular or occasional report (who???), a liaison person who will point to major developments and remind people of the Archive adress now and again.

    For a time I understood that John Gaigan was moderator of the <bureau at wsis-cs.org> list (purely administrative, not content) but he told me recently he is not. I get notices of all the posting but I have not got the password.

    So we need a volunteer for this moderation (it should take up no time at all). Karen Banks can then arrange for the password since the list is hosted at Greennet. The first job will be to make sure that all bureau members are correctly up to date on it - there may have been some changes.

    I think that's right.

      Hi.

      Am I correct, this list <bureau at geneva2003.org> is for Bureau members, it is the working list? Only members may post and the list is not archived? (No complaints about the list, I just want to be clear.)

      When the Bureau was established another list (open and archived) was set up, address <bureau at wsis-cs.org>

      <http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/public/bureau/>
      <http://mailman.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/bureau>

      I believe the intention was to use this second list to provide information about the Bureau, general matters of interest to civil society, to take questions and comments, etc. (things like Bureau meeting dates, anything not really of enough interest for plenary, but still of general interest that should be shared.)

      There's some confusion in the Internet Governance caucus about how to find out what's going on in the Bureau. Could we please start to use this second list address <bureau at wsis-cs.org> again for information about meetings, etc.

      Many thanks,

      Adam
