Hi Civil Society Bureau,

Thanks for the great notes Viola and others! It sounds that while difficult,
the recent meeting at least got some momentum again behind the WSIS process
and brought the likely lines of conflict to be defused, out into the open!

I'm glad that Marouen was able to participate in the CS Bureau - the Youth
Caucus was quite small at the meeting but at least we had some presence and
great people locally from Tunisia.

Right now, we are going through a restructure of the Youth Caucus. We have
been discussing for a week now the process we should go through, and it is
now finalized. At the end of the process, there will be a new Youth Caucus
facilitator (I am 'retiring' from the job, but will remain actively involved
in ICT policy stuff).

Our process is below, for your interest and information.

As I mentioned previously, our report on the First Phase is at
http://ycdo.takingitglobal.org/misc/YCDO%20Report%202002-2003%20Final.doc.

Our report on National Activities in Phase 1 is
http://www.ycdo.net/wsis/youthcampaignsbook.pdf

Our video is still in production but will be ready soon.

We are *really hoping* to raise more funds for National Activities but have
not had any luck. Any ideas anyone?

Cheers
Nick

FINAL PROCESS DETERMINED FOR SELECTION OF NEW YOUTH CAUCUS FACILITATORS

1) 20th - 28th of June (COMPLETE)
Members are invited to send feedback on the selection process to me (Nick).
I will incorporate suggestions where feasible, refining the process. The
finalized process will be announced.

2) 29th - 3rd of July

Nominations are now accepted for a selection committee.

Please send your nominations to me: nick at takingitglobal.org. Include your:
- name
- country
- age
- 50 word summary of why you want to be on the selection committee and
relevant experience

I will collate all the nominations into one email and send it to the list
for everyone's information on the 3rd.

Then, on the basis of previous coordination roles, on the 3rd, Alex Fielding
(Youth Liaison at the WSIS Secretariat in 2003) and I will review
applications for the selection committee, and make decisions, which we will
also briefly justify in terms of why people were selected, to the list. The
committee shall be as small possible but shall try and include at least one
person from every region (Africa, Asia, Europe, South America, North
America, Middle East) and be gender balanced.

3) 4th July - 10th July.
Selection committee announced. Selection committee defines job description,
and criteria for the candidates, and creates an application form.

4) 10th July - 20th of July
Accept applications and nominations for the position of Youth Caucus
Facilitator.

5) 21st of July - 26th of July
Selection committee reviews candidates and ranks them with a grade against
the criteria. Selection committee has preferably a voice/phone conference
(if it is feasible considering cost) or an internet chat, and if necessary
also has short interviews with candidates by phone (they would join the
voice conference).

6) 27th of July
New Youth Caucus Facilitator Announced. (If there are two candidates that
the selection committee believes would be mutually supportive, we might also
have 'co-facilitators', like several other UN Youth Caucuses).

7) 27th July - 10th of August
Intensive knowledge transfer and training provided by myself and other
people who have been actively involved.

8) 10th of August - person/people officially takes up role.
