The Centre Féminin pour la Promotion de Développement (CEFEPROD), a Cameroonian human rights organization in Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC, and a duly accredited entity to WSIS from the inception of its process, will organize a national symposium from the 8th to the 10th of June 2005 at Hotel Hilton, Yaoundé, in partnership with other international organizations, the private sector, and the civil society, and under the auspices of the Cameroonian Minister of Post and Telecommunications and the Tunisian Embassy in Cameroon. The theme shall be:

ICTs in poverty-reduction and development growth: stakes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS)

 

This symposium aims at:

-mobilizing and sensitizing all strata of the population on the concept of the information society and WSIS stakes

-promoting the usage of ICTs as tools for development and poverty-reduction

-developing an information society multi-stakeholder partnership 

The meeting shall address the following issues:

I/ A summary of the first phase of WSIS shall include:

a)      declaration of principles

b)      plan of action and its development

c)      Accra commitment.

 

II/ A presentation of WSIS stakes shall include:

a)      access to infrastructure

b)      access to contents ( traditional and community-based media)

c)      internet governance

d)      access to finance

e)      cultural and linguistic diversity

III/ Analysis

How ICTs can contribute to poverty-reduction, development growth and the Gender issue without the Information society.

 

Bearing in mind your commitment towards bridging the digital gap, we shall be honoured by your presence at this meeting through your written contributions and observations on the afore-mentioned themes or through a presentation of your experiences.

Proceedings at this symposium including all your contributions shall feature in a white paper publication to be presented in November 2005 in Tunis.

COMMUNIQUE
 
 
Le Centre Féminin pour la Promotion du Développement (CEFEPROD), Organisation de droit Camerounais, dotée du Statut Consultatif Spécial auprès de l'ECOSOC, Entitée accréditée au SMSI depuis le debut du processus, organise du 8 au 10 juin 2005 au Hilton Hôtel de Yaoundé, en parténariat  avec certains organismes Internationnaux, du secteur public, privé, et de la société civile, et Sous le Haut Patronage du Ministère Camerounais des Postes et Télécommunications et celui de l'Ambassade de la Tunisie au Cameroun, un Colloque National sur le thème :
Les TIC dans la lutte contre la pauvreté et la promotion du Developpement : les enjeux du Sommet Mondial sur la Société de l'Information (SMSI)
Ce colloque a pour objectifs :
- de mobiliser et de senbiliser toutes les couches de la population sur le concept de la société de l'information et sur les enjeux du SMSI
-Promouvoir l'utilisation des TIC comme outils de développement et de la réduction de la pauvréte
-Developper un partenariat multiacteurs dans le domaine de la société de l'information
 
Il s'agira :
 I/ de faire la restitution de la 1ère phase du SMSI  à travers la présentation:
      a) de la déclaration des principes,
      b) du plan d'action et de son évolution
      c)  des engagements d'Accra
 
II/  De développer les enjeux du SMSI à savoir : 
     a) l'accès à l'infrastructure
     b) l'accès aux contenus ( médias traditionnels et communautaires
     c) la Gouvernance Internet
     d) accès aux fiancements
     e) la diversité culturelle et linguistique
 
III/  D'analyser :
     Comment les TIC peuvent-elles contribuer à la reduction de la pauvrété et la promotion du dévelopement et la dimension Genre sans la Société de l'information
 
Connaissant votre engagement dans la lutte contre la réduction de la fracture numérique, nous vous invitons tous  soit d'honorer de votre présence ce rendez-vous, soit d'apporter vos contributions et observations écrites sur le développement des thèmes énoncés plus haut ; soit  encore sur  les études de cas de vos expériences.
 
Les actes de  ce colloque feront l'objet de la publication d'un livre blanc qui vous sera présenté en Novembre 2005 à Tunis, comportant toutes vos contributions.
