Hello
Copy of my message sent to Renate & Viola
+ extra consideration concerning
an
"Inventory of Planned Civil Society Events in Tunis"
---------------------------------------------------
Msg to Renate & Viola
The deadline is now nearing, and many WGs are not going to
make it, or within a complete chaos.
Many people are on holidays. Many institutions are closed.
Therefore the only solution is call for a deadline extension
for a month ( or at the very least 15 days ).
Since the event is in November, this request is not unreasonnable
My understanding is this extension request should be sent to
wsis-parallelevents at mincom.tn
as well as Charles Geiger, I guess.
Since it is a procedural issue, this issue must dealt with by the CSB,
otherwise the CSB role is undermined, which is quite undesirable
while considering the way the May 2 meeting was convened.
Since Renate and Viola has been elected as liaison officer
and alternate liaison officer, it seems it is should be at least one
of you ( or both of you ) that should send an email to Tunisia and phone
at the soonest to the WSIS executive secretariat considering
this request.
It would be also a good idea that one of you post on the plenary that
the CSB is going to ask for deadline extension.
I guess this is would be a most welcome and popular move that
no one could possibly object, and that would reinforce the
positive role of the CSB within the CS.
I do not want to post this idea of a call for an extension
to the plenary, I do not want to get into the spotlight when
it is the CSB that should be under the spotlight.
Otherwise, the CS is never going to get structured as
I have been advocating for quite some time.
------------------------------------------------------
extra consideration for a better CS organization.
I had yesterday Bertrand on the phone, before he left for a vacation
and stay incommunicado for a while. I suggested that the CS should
take advantage of an extension to get better organized and
at least to get a view of all the events that are being proposed so that
a collaboration could be established between us, umbrella and federated
events could be organized, instead of leaving the ITU/MinCom
organizers to decide in the dark which event should be selected and
emphasized, without having enough information about the proposal.
Making a nice proposal is one thing, to implement it successfully is
another thing. In Geneva , there were empty rooms where no speakers
were even present, some where only the speakers were present with
no audience. This was a ridiculous situation that undermined the
status of the Civil Society.
Since the new version of WSISonline is just ready,
Bertrand was kind enough to open a project page
http://www.wsis-online.net/smsi/classes/won/projects/won-projects-472992/project-view
"Inventory of Planned Civil Society Events in Tunis".
so that the CS could get organized with the same tool that is probably
getting to be used for the WSIS in Tunis.
However, this project page has being openned in my name
which leaves me with some sense of unease.
There is an emergency, but openning this Inventory
can wait one or 2 days. I would rather suggest that
Renate, Tracey, Viola ( alphabetical order ! ) should
manage this Inventory in the name of the CSB.
Best regards
Francis
