[CS Bureau] Derrick's project - status after Prepcom 2

I must say i left the prepcom a bit puzzled regarding the status of
the collaboration project between the CSB and Derrick's centre at the
University of Syracuse.

I don't know where we stand - i do recall the following...

After the Dec 04 cape town meeting, and after several online sessions
I had thought that participating in the project was a formality. if i
recall well, at both the jan and feb illuminate session we had agreed
to proceed and in fact had sent signed letters of support to the
University of Syracuse ethics review panel indicating our interest
and consent to participate.

There were some interactions with Derrick at PC 2, leading to
training session where almost all the bureau was present. The
reaction seemed to be positive . There were of course questions
regarding connectivity and translation . A quick reply was offered by
Derrick with an - implied - comment that he'd get back to us as to
specific details as to how the valid issues could be resolved and how
to proceed next.

To my knowledge no decision was taken, nor was any change in project
status communicated online. I did miss one bureau meeting ...so maybe
something happened, but no official decision seems to have been
communicated online on this list. I checked with Derrick yesterday,
and it seems he hasn't received any comments either ....so where do
we stand?

As an active member of the CSB I am puzzled and curious as to where
we stand . I hope that Derrick's offer to have the CSB participate in
his Collaboratory project hasn't been shelved.

As you may know the govt plenary on the 25th concluded with all the
issues and texts still open - all to be reconsidered at the following
prepcom. This means a very complex and densely packed PC3. One which
we should start preparing for now. Yes....you heard me right..we need
to start thinking of preparing for PC3 and the summit now. For if we
don't , then we won't be able to accomplished our stated mission of
preparing and arranging for all the required logistics for our Civil
Society colleagues.

Use of collaborative communications tools could be of great help.
Yes, they won't be perfect - but working together, helping each
other, i think we can find a compromise solution. At least we should
try...

well - those are my comments for now. Looking forward to hear from
the rest of you.

regards

Robert
