Dear all
I am planning to go to PrepCom3, but only in the second week...
As I outlined in the Caucus update several months ago, the Asia Caucus has not
been as active as before, and for varying reasons, some of which I suspect are:
- cost barriers to participating in meetings
- transitions in previously active organizations (i.e., staff movements)
- waning of interest because of flawed regional processes (in Bangkok, Bali,
Tehran)
- political considerations (i.e., critique by some of the whole process, and of
the moves of the Tunisian government)
- or for some, a simple pressure of other work in other areas...
This is no way detracts from the hard work of people continuing to engage, and
there is a continuing orientation to coordinate Asian participation and engage
the WSIS process...though it has not been easy.
I myself had long ago asked that I be replaced as focal point, with someone with
the resources and energy for this protrated process; but since no one has come
up formally, I continue to help out in whatever capacity I can...
Therefore the caucus has also depended on Asians who continue to be active in
the past PrepComs inspite of limitations, and it is probably them who the Caucus
can rely on during the first week (Izumi, Adam, Reza, or others...)
Hopefully we can nominate again someone (previously mentioned, or someone new)
who can be present for the CSB in behalf of the Asia Caucus in the coming days
Thanks
Al Alegre
