Hello
We got the the startling news that observers are going to
be expelled in the next sessions of the CSTD on WSIS
( on Monday and Tuesday ) at the request of South Africa
representing the G77.
South Africa intervention during today's session was not very
articulate, and many people understood he was simply
raising the point, but Karklins confirmed the sad news,
just as we were leaving the room.
European Union did not understand and was stunned
Upon the advice of the representative
from Egypt, I went to the G77 office and
I met a few G77 representatives, among whom, the
very representative of South Africa who "raised the question"
of participation of observers to the ongoing "informal session"
of CSTD concerning the follow-up of WSIS.
He said he was not against CS presence, but simply
that rules must be followed
This person seems to me overly procedural, and I never
saw him before in the WSIS process.
Finally, after expressing some degree of outrage,
in from of his colleagues, he told me that the G77
will discuss this question in their daily morning meeting.
We will be informed tomorrow, if CS is excluded or
not in next sessions, at the request of G77.
Best regards
Francis
