Arts software for ICT
Advice for Nero Ughwujabo and other creative entrepreneurs.
As a multimedia production company that grew out of community arts and
special needs education we have a broad experience of using digital media
in community settings. Although we are now primarily engaged in production
we are often called upon to advise on creative technology. Here are two
recent initiatives which may be of use.
We have a publication - 'Telematics and Multimedia in the Community - a
primer on the creative uses of computers and the Internet for schools,
youth clubs and community groups'.
£4.50 from Trilby or from bookshops. ISBN: 0-9540095-0-9
It is designed as an easy-to-photocopy A4 booklet and succinctly covers
'science bits', 'multimedia tips' and some general guidance about digital
technology in community based work.
Last summer we began to produce a free mini newsletter for anyone using
digital media, aiming to publish an issue every two months or so. The
Creative Technology News can be mailed to you or you can view or download
it from www.creativetechnologynews.net
I hope this helps you get your ICT Centres organised. We are currently
involved in setting up two Learning Centres here in Birmingham. We're
using Apple Macs because they are far easier for novices to use, need much
less maintenance, and come with a complete set of digital media software
that make it easy to do creative work. The iMovie video editing program is
amazingly easy to use yet does most things you need. See last weeks Times
Education Supplement on the BETT Show (www.tes.co.uk/online) to see more
about Digital Video in education.
Go to www.apple.com/uk to see the incredible new iMac which gives you
everything including the ability to burn DVDs all for £1,360. This is a
multimedia dream machine.
Hope some of this helps and excites you.
cheers
tony
