SOUTHWARK.TV at ELEFEST 2006
The Coronet, Elephant & Castle
7pm on Monday 27th November

Come to The Coronet on Monday for an extraordinary
night of film at south London's film festival ELEFEST.

"SOUTHWARK.TV" - 4 Years On
http://www.southwark.tv

First it is the turn of "Southwark.TV" with 25 minutes
of highlights from across the four years of this unique
community media project on the UK media map;

"OH LITTLE TOWN"
Next up is a half-hour documentary shot in Bethlehem,
which I visited in 2004 to look for an overseas partner
organisation to join the Southwark.TV website. I found
an organisation and came home with four tapes full of
material for which initially I had no plan. The film that
emerged features three distinct 'voices' from the now
walled in birthplace of Christianity: the professional
Bethlehemite who had contemplated emigrating but
opted to stay; teenage refugees with dark stories; and
a maverick satellite TV station manager somehow
offering a service to his fellow townsfolk.

Completing the evening is Oscar winning feature film
"PARADISE NOW", which for Palestine followers
addresses suicide bombing.

It promises to be quite an evening.

Southwark.TV set out to give people a voice; the
Bethlehem documentary certainly does that. I am
looking forward to discovering Paradise Now ...

Admission is free and Elefest organiser Rob Wray
mentioned to me the possibility of providing hot food
supplied by a local Bengali women's association !
Say no more.

Hope to see you there.
