Insight Radio (formerly VIPonair) has won a major radio industry award.
The station gained Silver at the Sony Radio Academy Awards in London for
the category of best Internet programme.
The Sony Awards are considered the Oscars of the radio Industry. Insight
Radio was the highest performing Scottish Station at the Ceremony
out-performing the likes of Radio Clyde and BBC Radio Scotland.
Station manager, Ross MacFadyen, said, "(Insight Radio) is unique,
nobody else does what we do, and the Sony Radio Academy have recognized
that by giving us this award.
"I'm delighted that the team at Insight Radio have managed to pick this
award up so early on in the lifetime of the radio station.
Insight Radio, formerly known as VIPonAIR, broadcasts to blind and
partially sighted people across the UK and overseas. The programmes,
presented by blind and partially sighted staff and volunteers, cover
news, entertainment and service information of particular relevance to
people with sight loss, while aiming to inform and entertain the general
audience. Insight Radio has been awarded a community license to
broadcast on FM in the Glasgow area.
Insight Radio is funded by a partnership of organisations led by RNIB
Scotland. John Legg, director of RNIB Scotland, says: "This is
well-deserved recognition of the achievements of Ross Macfadyen and his
team in developing the service. It demonstrates the quality of the
programmes the station is producing and t he talent of the staff. It is
an auspicious start to the station's expansion on to FM."
