1) this is a great encouragement to the whole OER community.<br>
that participated with various degrees of involvement<br>

2) politically, it is an excellent asset<br>
to defend OER activities at UNESCO, <br>
across all UNESCO sectors, and reinforce the <br>
whole UNESCO institution,, to<br>
expand and to continue this effort, <br>
and to get more resources for this purpose. <br>
<br>
3) this leadership award should be accounted in the WSIS stocktaking,<br>
and this award should be mentioned in the report of the<br>
WSIS e-learning action whose facilitation meeting was held recently<br>
in Geneva. <br>
<br>
4) lastly, with a more personnal touch, many thanks to Susan,<br>
whose unending enthusiasm has been the catalyst of this<br>
specific UNESCO effort<br>

<p><font face="Arial" size="2"><span
style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">Everyone
should all stand up and take a bow! The UNESCO OER Community received
the
2008 MANeLA Leadership Award. It was presented at eLearning <st1:place
w:st="on">Africa</st1:place> last week by Moustapha Diack, Director of
MERLOT
Africa Network (MAN), and Gerry Hanley, Executive Director of MERLOT.
And
Katy was present at the award session, along with several members of
the
Community, to accept it on behalf of all of us. The Leadership Award
recognizes the Community’s “significant contribution to the global
understanding of the issues and innovations surrounding OER and the OER
movement”.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p><font face="Arial" size="2"><span
style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: Arial;">The
Merlot Africa Network (<strong><b><font face="Arial"><span
style="font-family: Arial; font-weight: normal;">MAN) established </span></font></b></strong>a
“<strong><b><font face="Arial"><span
style="font-family: Arial; font-weight: normal;">MAN</span></font></b></strong><strong><b><font
face="Arial"><span style="font-family: Arial;">-</span></font></b></strong><em><i><font
face="Arial"><span style="font-family: Arial;">eLearning <st1:place
w:st="on">Africa</st1:place></span></font></i></em><strong><b><font
face="Arial"><span style="font-family: Arial; font-weight: normal;">
exemplary
practice Award” to</span></font></b></strong><strong><b><font
face="Arial"><span style="font-family: Arial;"> </span></font></b></strong>recognize
exemplary OER
(learning resources) and Communities of Practice. MAN made use of the
peer
review protocol already established by MERLOT for selecting best
practices, and
modified the protocol to include criteria of OER internationalization
such as multi-language
support and accessibility. Our thanks to MAN for this</span></font><font
