It's that time of year
again - darkening afternoons, neon
father Christmases, long-johns for the
cycle ride home and your annual round
robin from the GreenNet Collective.

Given that it's been
Twenty Twelve and we're writing to you
from East London, the Olympics seems
like a good starting block for this
one. GreenNet's Olympics
challenge was decidedly more
subversive and less sporty
than the rest of what was getting
covered on the telly. 

We teamed up with the
Open Doors sexual health clinic to
work out an innovative solution to the
problem of how to do outreach work
whilst the police were closing down
brothels in the run up to the games.
We launched the
clinic's new website just in time
to reach east London sex workers with
the sorts of advice that the nurses
used to provide on visits before the
police action began. And we're
thrilled to see that the site is going
from strength to strength. All their
content is now available in 5
languages, clinic news is tweeted as
it happens, and new leaflets based on
the website have been printed.

You may also have
noticed a call for responses to a
survey we put out earlier in
the year. Many many thanks to
all of you who took the time to
respond. Your feedback has been great
in helping us to work out new
directions for our own website, of
which we hope there will be more to
report on early in the new
year.

In a nutshell the
survey revealed that GreenNet's
ethical and community
orientation is still a very high
priority for you, and that
there's a real interest in continued
improvements to the ethical options we
can provide in our range of products
and services.

On the online freedom
front, there's still lots to do. The
government's latest Snooper's Charter
has drawn widespread
criticism, not least from the
joint parliamentary committee. Our
friends at the Open
Rights Group and Privacy
International are still valiantly
on the case, so do look out for
campaign stuff to join in with in the
new year.

As for the rest of
this one, we will of course be
carefully monitoring the system
throughout the holiday period but the
office will be closed from 24th
December and assuming the Mayans got
it wrong, we'll reopen on 2nd
January 2013.
