Dear Tracey,
I was at the meeting in Bucharest, but I am away from home until the 19th,
and I have no documents with me of course. The dates were 7-9 Nov 2002. What
we achieved was to form an ad hoc media lobby (World Press Freedom Comittee,
EBU, IFJ, SFJ, among others) coodinated by A. Modoux, and succeeded to introduce
in the final declaration at the verz last minute a reference to the media
as partners and actors in the WSIS process in the declaration (see Bucharest
declaration, principle one, two last sentences):
"Moreover, communications technology is not an end in itself, but a means
of supplying quality content in the information society. In this regard,
mass media - in their various forms - are recognized as important means of
fostering public information, societal development and social cohesion."
I hope others will be able to contribute.
Best
Michel
