Responding to a couple of things -
Firstly, I am very happy with Wolfgang's revised draft as is. I think it
should go forward from the group.
And secondly to add comment to Adam's observations about the ICT group -
My fear about labelling such a group is the sort of representation that
might come forward. To give a few examples from people I have worked with
(many on Internet Mark 2 Advisory Committee)
Paul Vixie would never get the nod from ISOC, IETF or ICANN - nor would
James Seng, one of the most prominent multilingual domain name experts. Nor
Meng Weng Wong, one of the most influential people on spam issues and very
in touch with the messaging industry (which the above bodies are not).
Nor Louis Pouzin, very active in CS, inventor of datagrams, but not involved
in any big way in the above bodies.
Nor prominent thinkers on next generation networks such as Dave Clark and
Larry Peterson, in GENI and Planet-Lab initiatives.
Or an Esther Dyson even, founding Chair of ICANN and prominent Internet
thinker.
Just a few names to suggest that the best people who could contribute to IGF
in the technical field, and some of the best thinkers on Internet matters,
would probably not emerge from such a caucus as representatives on Internet
bodies.
Like Adam and Vittorio, I like the idea that a looser model of choosing
participants (or Wolfgang's now-disappeared Advisory Council)might be a good
idea so that a wider range of expertise becomes available that that which
might emerge through a straight representational process.
Something to think about as we go forward!
