<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">Dear Philippe</font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">I would like to join the different voices
from around the globe congratulating you for your contribution to the WSIS
process. </font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">You and Renate were two pillars on which
we from the Executive Secretariat of WSIS could count. Both of you had
a deep understanding of the WSIS process and both of you knew very well
how far one could push the multistakeholder approach and where the limits
were. I think it is not exagerated to say that both of you have played
a very important role in the success of WSIS. </font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">Together were able to push the multistakeholder
approach quite far (probably farer than in any other UN body), due to the
fact that you both did not only have the trust of the other civil society
entities in WSIS, but also the trust from the Government side. I said at
different occasions that there were several reasons why the WSIS multi-stakeholder
process was successful, but one of the reasons were the persons involved,
and the trust that was built up among the main actors. You and Renate were
key in building up the necessary trust between the Intergovernmental Bureau
of WSIS and the representatives of civil society (and of business!). </font>
<br>
<br><font size=2 face="sans-serif">Therefore please accept my sincerest
thanks for the excellent cooperation over the past years and I wish you
all the best in your new involvement in the Human Rights field. And I would
like to extend these thanks also to Renate, who "quitely" disappeared,
because most of us dealing with WSIS issues were not so familiar with the
CONGO interna and did not know that CONGO rules allow only for two terms
for its Presidents. </font>

Thank you, Parminder, for your kind words and yes, Philippe has been quite<br>
outstanding.<br>
<br>
Regarding my "quiet exit" from CONGO, I thought it was not so
quiet, as it<br>
was the natural exit as President during the last CONGO General Assembly<br>
after a two term mandate. As this was public knowledge on our website etc,<br>
it occurred to me only later that I did not send a note to our various
WSIS<br>
follow up lists which are not so directly in the CONGO mainstream. <br>
<br>
I personally enjoyed tremendously working with all of you since day 1 of<br>
WSIS and hope to continue to cross your paths on- and off-line.<br>
<br>
Best<br>

<br>
<br>
<br>
<br>
Philippe did some excellent work as a civil society focal point for WSIS
and<br>
post-WSIS work. In fact his manner of working represents to me the picture<br>
perfect way of managing such a focal point. <br>
<br>
In a networked world as civil society is discovering most effective ways
to<br>
make impact, especially at the global level, Philippe's work afforded a
good<br>
example of how to manage crucial choke points of a complex civil society<br>
network. Anriette's description captures it aptly "You understand
the<br>
issues, you have a good sense of strategy, and your commitment to being<br>
inclusive has been exemplary."<br>
<br>
So thank you Philippe once again. And wishing you the very best.<br>
<br>
In fact, we should extend this felicitation as much to Philippe's boss<br>
Renate who made a quite exit from CONGO a few months back. CONGO's work<br>
under her was of outstanding help for a very diverse and dispersed WSIS<br>
civil society.<br>
<br>
While we hope to get the same kind of help from CONGO in future, we wish<br>
Renate and Philippe the best in the new areas of activities they have taken<br>
up. (Renate like Philippe continues to be very active in other civil society<br>
organizations.)<br>
