Update from Montreux: The Data Protection Commissioners are really getting
more interested in and active around the WSIS.
The Chairman of the "Berlin Group", Alexander Dix, will send another
letter to Karklins in the next days.
This morning somebody from the El Salvador DP Commissioner[1] spoke in the
plenary and referred at length to WGIG and the need to have a UN Working
Group on Privacy as part of WSIS follow-up. He will also be there during
the Prepcom, I guess as a member of their government delegation. We'll
keep contact and see how we can collaboratively push this idea forward,
either in the framework of the Internet Governance follow-up or elsewhere.

Shall I ask him if he can present at our side-event on Thursday?

We could also try to get the Swiss Commissioner involved. He was very
pleased by the event we had yesterday with EDRI, EPIC, PI, PSWG and some
other groups, and would probably like to stay in touch. Not sure though if
he could have any impact on the Swiss negotiating positions. Shall I ask
him also?

Or should we first do the event on our own, in order to bring across our
NGO points of view?

Ralf
