[Privsec] Great news from Montreux

The Data Protection Commissioners have today adopted a declaration that
explicitly refers to the WSIS:

http://www.edsb.ch/e/aktuell/konferenz/declaration-e.pdf

(can't copy&paste it, read yourself, para 14 and most of page 3)

In addition to the Data Protection person from El Salvador, I was also
approached by the vice director of CNIL (French DP Authority). She wants
to press the French delegation in Geneva to introduce language that would
establish a global UN Privacy Forum as one outcome of the summit. It might
have to be connected to the Internet Governance Forum, but still...

Does anyone have good connections to their government delegation and could
convince them to support this? If we get the French and someone else from
the EU (Rikke?), there is a slight chance that this becomes the EU
position. Other governments also can really help on this. The Berlin Group
will also submit another letter to Karklins and Khan. Their Chairman Dix
will closely coordinate with us.

:-)

Ralf <- off to Lausanne/Geneva now
