Hi all,

Charles Geiger, chairman of the WSIS Executive Secretariat tonight
informed us about the host country agreement for the summit. I asked about
a privacy policy. Here are my rough notes from his quite lenghty answer.
Enjoy.

Ralf

----- begin Geiger ---------

Host Country Agreement for the Summit
signed last Friday
not fully publishable yet, has to be ratified by Tunisia
(details on immunity etc. left out here, RB)

1. The Privacy Policy will be published
Will cover registration data as listed in the participant’s list:
- Only name and affiliation. Email listed only with opt-in
- WSIS-ES will only give the data needed for the badge (name, affiliation,
code number (related to the picture), type of badge - gov, observer,...)

2. RFID name badges will be used again.
- badging is outsourced to Atos (?) (who did badging in Athens Olympics)
- every day at 24:00 the data is deleted from the system
-> note by RB: Why store it in the first place?
- no tracking of movements inside the Kram Exhibition center
- ("Cell phone tracking is much easier anyway")
- nobody really interested in that data, I can assure you.
- "We don’t even track you when you leave, it is not even read by the
machines."

--- end Geiger ---

I will try to follow-up on this to
a) ask why the data has to be stored until 24:00 in the first place
b) get the privacy policy ASAP

Best, Ralf
