Dear All
You will see from the message below that Pegasus have arranged for this
edition of Systems Thinker to be circulated at will and so I think this
is an important opportunity to get a briefing on Dennis Meadow's latest
thinking about sustainable systems. I hope that, when the world
modelling we are beginning is further on, we can invite Dennis to discus
potentials for our Institute and how far we might collaborate.
Best wishes
Tony Hodgson

Welcome to THE SYSTEMS THINKER(r), V16N9 (November 2005),
which is attached to this e-mail as a PDF file.
Having recently returned from the 15th annual Pegasus Conference in San
Francisco, we are full of new ideas and renewed inspiration for moving
the work of systems thinking and organizational learning out into the
world. It was wonderful to talk with so many readers in person and hear
how "The Systems Thinker" has supported your work over the years. We
hope to meet even more of you at next year's conference, which will be
held in the Boston area November 13-15, 2006. To take advantage of
early-bird registration discounts, please go to

Several keynote speakers highlighted the imperative for embracing and
leveraging our interdependence in order to tackle the growing
environmental challenges we face as a global community. In this month's
issue, thanks to our friends at Chelsea Green Publishing
(www.chelseagreen.com), we are honored to share with you a chapter from
"Limits to Growth: The 30-Year Update." In 1972, the first edition of
this book shocked the world with its grim scenarios of what might happen
if the existing patterns of industrial and population growth persisted
into the future. Although the outlook hasn't improved in three decades,
authors Donella Meadows, Jorgen Randers, and Dennis Meadows continue to
believe that, by acting wisely together, we can avoid the worse outcomes
of environmental and societal collapse. In "Tools for the Transition to
Sustainability," they offer a surprising set of "tools" for living more
sustainably on the planet.
With Chelsea Green's permission, we'd like to encourage you to forward
this special issue to your friends, colleagues, members of community
groups and religious organizations--anyone you can think of who might
respond to the call to action. We hope that, by doing so, you will play
a role in creating a tipping point for lasting change.
Best regards,
Janice Molloy
