Greetings from UgaBYTES initiative

Over the previous month several things have been taking place at the
UgaBYTES head offices in Kampala. First the E-conference Report
compilation, the staff development program, the re-examination of the
Technical department, the consolidation of the Network members and the
preparation for Telecenter Managers’ Content development workshop in
Kamuli. Thanks for your remainders and support in all those programs,
which has been a sign of a brotherly solidarity.

The E-conference draft report highlights the issues of Telecenter
sustainability in developing countries for which you were the originators.
With its general but rather personal reporting format of the proceedings,
I have confidence the report will go a long way to contribute to the
shaping of the Telecenter body of Knowledge. Resilient Telecenter leaders
will find this report embedded with both New and old insights to
Telecenter sustainability, for which I don’t want to attempt to summarize
here, for fear of pre-emptying your final input to the process.

To gain insights of the Draft report, kindly visit:

Kindly provide your feedback on all the sections of the draft to
ndaulasula at ugabytes.org. The deadline for submission of your feedback is
26/09/2005. This will allow the conference coordinator review the draft in
time, into the final version to be released on 30th September 2005. Be
sure not to respond through the list’s email address
(ugabytes at ugabytes.org)

On the other developments, UgaBYTES is organizing a Telecenter Managers’
Local Content Development Workshop. The workshop will take place at Uganda
Development Service-Multipurpose Telecenter at Kamuli (Uganda). Strategic
partnerships have already been made with the local NGOs from which local
content will be documented, packaged, and disseminated. The workshop will
aim at:

1.Training Telecenter Managers in content development Methodologies
2.Package information in appropriate ICT4D formats
3.Train Managers the operation of Content servers
4.Establish procedures for Content development, packaging and sharing
5.Certify the first content trainees under the UgaBYTES gradual upgrade
certification system for Telecenter Managers.

The residential 3-days workshop will take place on 6-8 October 2005. It
will cost each participant US$ 30 for registration. Details of the
workshop will be communicated on Wednesday 21st September 2005.

That is all for now, from your Network. Until Wednesday, Bye
