Hi Laina and Max

Laina, thanks for the clarification . I appreciate that. Clearly I have not
been receiving all my emails from IGF and a few other sources.Perhaps this
is because I have recently changed my server and have new spam control. If
my statements seem too strong ,then I apologize

I am glad to work on the substance of producing something that adds to the
body of Knowledge and also contributes to the policy documents . I am also
glad to do that as a collective.

I am of the mind set that my contribution in the above manner is my
preference. The list show several candidates. If our names can be sent in as
a nomination that would be great. I do not have the time to market or canvas
my self but am will to have my name sent in .But we must send some names .

Max do not lose motivation. I too am so heavily involved in too many things.

May I suggest the following. Max can you simply send our two names. If that
is OK with you Laina. And see what happens. It seems like this is as far as
we are prepared to go

Easter greetings to all

regards
Shaila Rao Mistry

Hi folks, I am in between cities and had a really full week, so please
excuse my delayed post.

To be honest, I do not have the motivation to get too involved in the
political struggle to select the best people for the NomCom. I did not
follow the latest debate on procedure and as such I am willing to volunteer
for the caucus but I do not have the time to engage in the inner
constitutional/organisational process of civil society as actor.

I am really interested to work on and discuss the theme of ethics & values
in the information society. My priority is to energize this caucus and
produce a collection of positions which allows for better grounded discourse
and eventually a common position.

Greetings
Max

Dear Shaila,

Again for clarification purposes, it is not clear if IGC is accepting names
from other caucuses but they are accepting selfnominations. I am also not
sure what IGF is accepting, so I will defer here on process and let you and
MAx figure this out. I guess I should have made this clear when I first
proposed the two names, that I am not in charge of this process and myself
do not understand the process. Sorry if I misled you.

Best,
Laina

Hi Liana

In this case I think we should simply send the names we have. The self
nomination is too laborious and also does not indicate representation from a
Caucus. If no one else has responded and we have no response from the co-
coordinators , we should send name of those expressing interest.I am
suggesting this because the Co- co-ordinators may be out of the country and
may not be available to surge forward if necessary.

Max should definitely be one of them and I volunteer my name if it is OK
with you and him. Unless you are also interested then we can send your name
as well. You will do a fine job.

regards

Shaila

Dear Shaila,

I think you misunderstood me. There is currently no clarity of process
anywhere, not just VE.. This is why I forwarded all the other emails from
IGC so we can TRY and understand what is happening.

I am hoping Max can help us with that, otherwise we will need to resort to
self nominations either directly to IGC or IGF. There is no clear process
for VE, which is why I suggested at the least finding a way to put names of
our co-convenors forward as they have already been "approved" as
co-convenors (i.e Liberato and Bahiyyih). Not sure either of them are
interested though. No objections to sending on your name and Max...but again
I don;t know the process and will not claim or fo not want to be in charge.
So in the interest of time, we need either need someone like Max to send in
names (which is supported by this list) or we fall back to self-nomination
directly to IGC or IGF as most candidates are currently doing within IGC.

Regards,
Laina

Greetings All

We need to have a process in the VEC that is transparent. I am dismayed at
the communications in the last 24 hours.Clearly communications regarding IGF
has not included all members of the VE Caucus.Let us amend that for the
future.Let us have better sharing of information and reporting of IGF
proceedings and VE actions.

Let us also be cautious not perpetuate the paradigm that women are not
available or qualified to do the job. Let us chose women for the reason of
their capability not simply that they are women. As an established
Technology Entrepreneur in our industry with past careers in Law and in
Clinical Psychology, I face this stereotype daily and work tirelessly to
dispel it..

As some of you know I have just returned recently from the 60 th UN
Commission on the Status of Women in New York where I Chaired the Caucus on
Women and Men and Equal Participation in Decision Making.I wrote the
document after reaching cons us amongst 100 members from 50+ countries .This
document was then debated by 191 nations states in CSW General Assembly and
adopted. There are huge sections that are exactly the wording that I crafted
.

It is indeed surprising to suddenly receive a statement on nominations along
with two names, both of whom are excellent and both of whom I consider to be
friends. If we can send three names, kindly consider mine as well. If not
then I will withdraw my name in the interest of proceeding with the
nominations. I am making this decision because I do not wish Max Senges to
withdraw.

I look forward to more communication and reporting.Let us work towards a
better process and together.

Hello all,

First of all I am happy to report that three authors have confirmed that
they would be willing to write a contribution to the compendium we consider
to produce and publish in the context of the IGF.

Regarding the NomCom: I am grateful for your confidence and I would be
interested to participate in the IGF setup process representing the ethics &
values caucus. However I am really involved in my research and should we
have several candidates I am happy to step aside (ensure swift consensus)
and support and collaborate with our nominees. I am also unclear how we want
to submit our nominations.

All the best
Max

Dear Shaila,

Good point but we should be also more focused on people who are very
involved and informed about values and ethics as their agenda, hence my
suggestion of Liberato and Max. Also gender caucus will already be giving
their list of names. For gender balance and people involved in these issues,
we could add Bahiyyih Chauffers and/or perhaps one more from the Brahma
Kumaris as well. In any case, if we have no clarity on process of agreeing
to names and the process of submitting, it may be that you and the others
will have to self-nominate anyway.

Liberato and Bahiyyih- for sure we should at minimum submit your names as
you are the co-convenors so kindly take this up and see how you want to
handle this. Max is very involved in IGF discussions and could help serve as
our point of contact for submitting names. Process again would help give us
some clarity on how to be involved.

Max or Liberato- could you help?

Best,
Laina

Greetings Everyone

I am very pleased that two names are being proposed and have confidence in
them. However, I would like to ensure that we ourselves do not fall into
the trap of gender bias. In this respect I would like to volunteer to serve
on the NomCom.I know that most of you are cognizant with my background.

Please add my name as well.
