Hi folks
Tim O'Reilley just proposed a Blogger Code of Conduct - I thought that might
interest you. Here is a message i wrote to my students of a course on
applied philosophy/ethics in cyberspace (the spanish original is below; i
just parsed it through bablefish)
"In an Wired interview he explains:"people at a conference would not
tolerate the kind of conversations that happen in the comment threads on
many blogs. If somebody started standing up and shouting obscenities, yoúd
throw them out. My point is, most bloggers plows way too tolerant of abusive
behavior on to their blogs. [... ] The whole (code of conduct) was to
reaction to Chris original Lockés statement, you know, "I didn't say that
under I have not responsibility." And Ím going, "Wait to make a draft, yeah,
you do. Yoúre the to manager of to site that was getting progressively to
nastier, and you let it happen." It really started with to reaction to this
idea that to site to owner dog and should disclaim comments on to their
blog."
There is a fundamental question and a dilemma. The question is if the owner
of a platform of communicacion is responsible for the contents that usarios
contribute? [ This question in fact this very related to problems of '
piratear versus compartir' because this question is right that were dealing
with in the case Kazaar. ]
And the dilemma is the following: If the moderator eliminates a contribution
this violating the freedom of expression of usario and if he does not do
anything the conversation might develop in a dirty dispute. In the
continuation of the article Ó'Reilly proposes a moderation system that
allows the usarios only positive evaluations.
To mw this solution seems very prudent because there is no censorship but
the usarios can select that they want to see only the positive
contributions.

Greetings max
not tolerate the kind of conversations that happen in the comment threads on
many blogs. If somebody started standing up and shouting obscenities, you'd
throw them out. My point is, most bloggers are way too tolerant of abusive
behavior on their blogs.
[...]
The whole (code of conduct) was a reaction to Chris Locke's original
statement, you know, "I didn't say that so I have no responsibility." And
I'm going, "Wait a minute, yeah, you do. You're the manager of a site that
was getting progressively nastier, and you let it happen." It really started
with a reaction to this idea that a site owner can and should disclaim
comments on their blog."

"I am a wanderer and mountain-climber, said he to his heart. I love not the
plains,
and it seemeth I cannot long sit still.
And whatever may still overtake me as fate and experience- a wandering will
be therein,
and a mountain-climbing: in the end one experienceth only oneself."
