WISeKey at WSIS in Tunis: As part of its support to the World Summit on
Information Society, WISeKey in cooperation with Microsoft and the OISTE
Foundation will be providing a Digital Identification Infrastructure
designed to support a network of 20,000 Certification Authorities. Each
of these Certification Authorities operating from 189 countries will be
authorized to issue a minimum of 1,000 Digital Identities each supported
by the WISekey-OISTE Trust Model creating a de-facto global digital
identity community of 20 million users.
Stand 2202
Swiss Pavilion
ICT4all Platform - WSIS 2005, Tunis.
. WISeKey will be selecting organisations participating at WSIS
as potential participants in this program and will provide each one with
one CertifyID Black for issuance of eIDs to their top clients and
members participating at WSIS. The objective of WISekey is to reduce
the gap in the new Digital Identification Divide and to provide
equitable and meaningful access to digital identification technology so
we can ensure that all countries can benefit. This new initiative has
been designed to allow the global deployment of a digital identity
infrastructure and to expand it further by increasing access to:
· The benefits derived from a secure and reliable system of
digital identity embracing a global trusted community for business,
trade, health, education, tourism, government etc. have been widely
shown to be quite significant. The efficiencies obtained provide
enormous cost savings, as well as the capacity to build quickly or
progressively a globally trusted community embracing all countries.
· The possibility to expand the use of digital identification to
Less Developed Countries and emerging economies via the network of
Certification Authorities interconnected among them by an acceptable
Trust Model based on the work done by WISekey with International
Organizations such as ITU, OISTE, IOM, the UN, etc.
· The usefulness of digital identities in a real-world
application of immense value to the global community. In this regard,
WISeKey has now finalized the development of the CertifyID BlackBox
based on a Microsoft platform allowing a very lo cost implementation of
PKI.
Carlos Moreira, President of WISeKey, commented: "A Digital Identity
totally represents the human owner when interacting with computers or
people over the network. The purpose of the Digital Identity is to
restore the ease and security human transactions once had when business
was conducted only face-to-face. In today's world, a networked world, we
are often conducting sensitive business and personal transactions over
vast distances without ever meeting or even speaking. Digital Identities
are required worldwide so we ensure global participation and we exclude
the exclusion"
Mr. Carlo Lamprecht, State Counsellor, Minister of Economy, Labour and
Foreign Affairs, State of Geneva, Switzerland, commented “ The work
carried out by WISekey and partners in the area of Digital
Identification will have profound implications in the way the Internet
will work in the future. Geneva as the birthplace of the World Wide Web
and headquarters of WISekey is the ideal place to continue these
discussions at the Geneva World Security Forum, an event designed to
continue the work of WSIS in this area”. This Forum planned for 2006 aim
to be the world wide focal point for all security related issues and
solutions.
Mr. Nitin Desai, Special Adviser of the United Nations
Secretary-General to WSIS commented “"The Digital Identification project
foreseen by the OISTE Foundation using WISekey technologies will assist
governments participating at WSIS to understand that Digital
Identification is not just about technology and electronic service
delivery; it is about using security, legislation, information and
communications technology to improve the delivery, quality and
accessibility of public services built around the needs of the citizen
and customer. It will mean doing things in radically new and different
ways and will accelerate the process to bridge the digital divide gap."
Daniel Stauffacher, Ambassador of Switzerland for WSIS, State
Secretariat for Economic Affairs, commented: «the efforts of WISekey to
provide assistance to developing countries on Digital Identification is
a welcome contribution to bridge the digital divide and harness the
power of information and communication technologies (ICTs)."
Professor Pedro Teta, National Coordinator of the National Commission on
Information Technologies and Vice-Minister of Science and Technology of
Angola commented: “The Angola Government will be announcing the Secure
Angola Project at WSIS in cooperation with WISeKey and OISTE. This
project is a unique occasion for the Angolan Government to focus and
renew its efforts towards the building of the information society and
the knowledge society of the new Millennium.”
Brunson McKinley, Director General of International Organization for
Migration commented "With the emergence of a global information society
comes a heightened awareness of life and work opportunities in other
parts of the world, a factor that can contribute to migration,
especially for work. Securing the digital transactions between migrants,
governments and other service providers will allow the next step of
information security and provide the framework to implement initiatives
like remittance management to help developing countries fight poverty."
Jan Muehlfeit, Vice-President Public Sector Europe, Middle-East and
Africa, Microsoft Corporation commented: “Information security and the
extension of workflow to include citizens and companies are key
components of e-government. We look to partners such as WISeKey to
ensure that solutions based on Microsoft technologies are delivering
value for the unique needs of the Public Sector.”
Alain Clerc, Executive Secretary of Digital Solidarity Fund underlines
the importance of building new relations between the public sector and
the private sector in order to respond to the Millennium Development
Goals. “It is indeed through such partnerships [WISeKey] that we are
tackling the huge challenge of the Digital Divide”.
Dr. David H. Lee, Vice President of the World Trade Center Association
in New York commented: “With a global infrastructure of 330 World Trade
Centers in over 190 countries, we are cooperating with WISekey in
expanding the Digital Identification Infrastructure to reach all
countries in the world and drastically reduce the Digital Identification
Divide”
WISekey is pleased to invite organizations participating at WSIS to
visit the WISekey Digital Identification Center
Stand 2202 Swiss Pavilion ICT4all Platform - WSIS 2005, Tunis and get a
free Digital Identification. The Trusted Global Digital Identity
Community MoU
The objective of this MoU to be launched at WSIS is to establish an
inclusive, technology-neutral and technology independent framework for
contributions towards a beneficial, non-exclusive, cost-effective and
global development and deployment of highly secure infrastructure and
applications for value-added e-services requiring Digital Identity in
Developing and Least Developed Countries worldwide.
Participating Certification Authorities will be signatories of the MoU
together with a PPP allowing them to get technical assistance from
WISekey in establishing their Digital Identity Infrastructure. The MoU
will be presented to WSIS Member States, to potential donor countries,
funding Organizations and industry partners. Once a Government has
become a signatory, we will instruct WISeKey to assist with the set-up
of a Certification Authority and active deployment of the project in the
country. OISTE and its partnership will seek international contributions
to fund the deployment of the infrastructure in disadvantaged areas of
the world. The PPP Industry Expert Group will assist to develop
appropriate business models and strategies to render the project
financially viable in order to reach sustainability in the shortest
possible period.
