 PRESS RELEASE

Belfast's local TV station goes global

In response to requests from ex-pats and those who are simply interested in
knowing what life is like in Belfast, NvTv, Belfast's free-to-air local
television service, is now available on-line. Launching the not-for-profit
channel on the Internet means that everyone with a broadband connection is
now able to watch NvTv streaming live anywhere in the world accessing the
station at www.nvtv.co.uk

'We've always known that developments which happen locally are of interest
to people internationally'. said David Hyndman, Community Media Development
Director, 'being on-line gives people a taste of life in Belfast and
provides a fantastic showcase for the work of the organisations and groups
we feature.' Viewers also have the opportunity to select and watch other
programmes on the web from the NvTv archive. 'The Kick out the Jams series
which is made by volunteers in association with local bands has proved very
popular over the Internet'. Currently the work of over 40 Northern Irish
musicians and bands is online including Therapy, Brian Huston, Duke Special
and The Answer.

NvTv also gives some rare insights into life at a community level in
Belfast. 'We've been pleased to profile the work of many groups in Belfast.
Groups on the Shankill and in West Belfast have been especially supportive
of the local television initiative. Currently we are working on a series
with people from the Village area of Belfast. Although we are only a small
team, we still want everyone in Belfast to feel that this is their
television station.'

The week of the launch also sees The Artery, NvTv's local arts series,
produced and hosted by Royce Harper, receive funding from the Lottery
through the Northern Ireland Film and Television Commission, 'Not to stretch
a pun too far, this is a real shot in the arm for the Artery. This funding
has allowed the series to become even better. Streaming the programme on
the Internet will showcase the local arts scene to an international
audience'.

'I'm delighted that NvTv is ahead of the curve in streaming on the net. This
could bring a whole new audience to the channel and to the The Artery which,
as a local grass roots arts strand, we were delighted to finance through the
Lottery' states Richard Williams, Chief Executive of NIFTC.

For Belfast viewers, NvTv is also available free-to-air. It broadcasts a
terrestrial picture, so a conventional TV aerial is needed, with TV sets
tuned into Channel 62 (Frequency 799.276MHz). Further details:
